On Thursday night in New York (Feb. 12, 2015), superstar Kanye West brought out a multitude of big-name guest stars, including Big Sean, Travi$ Scott, Pusha T and 2 Chainz. West also welcomed a new face to the stage. 24 year old sensation Fetty Wap, who is the artist behind the hit song “ Trap Queen”. Wap's unexpected performance had West beaming onstage as well as Jay Z and Beyonce who were dancing along in the audience. Who is Fetty Wap? Our experts put together a list of 5 things you need to know about Kanye’s new favorite artist.

1. He's from Paterson, New Jersey.

Like Redman and Queen Latifah before him, Fetty Wap hails from the Garden State, a city that's about a 40-minute train ride away from Manhattan, NY. Wap is one of the members of Remy Boyz 1738, a rap group that also features P-Dice and Montana "Monty" Buckz. The three MCs are constantly collaborating -- Monty recently released a single titled "OverNight" with Wap, while P-Dice and Monty teamed up last month on the track "Jalapeño."

2. He made "Trap Queen" a year ago.

About a year ago, Wap the song “Trap Queen” to soundcloud. The song was originally released as a freestyle; after Wap rattled off three verses. He then posted the track as rough draft, not knowing the impact it would soon have. Wap also confessed "Trap Queen" is about a specific woman he refers to as a “Queen”. "I was dealing with a female at the time," says Wap. "She kind of really inspired the whole thing. That's really where it came from. [She's] the inspiration of my Trap Queen."

3. Fetty Has No Use Of His Left Eye

After seemingly dodging questions abut his obviously injured eye, Fetty finally opened up about the condition during an interview with Shade 45 (see video). "When I was little, I got into a little accident, and it gave me congenital glaucoma in both of my eyes," Wap explained. "The doctors saved one, so I was blessed to [still] have my vision."

4. Bobby Shmurda Knew Fetty Would Make It Beore He Did!

A few Months after "Hot N--a" was recognized nationally and by stars like Rihanna, Jay Z, and Beyonce and proceeded to take over radio (and before he ran into his legal troubles), Bobby Schmurda endorsed the song “Trap Queen” before it reached its fame. Upon the songs entry to fame the video has since gained 7,700 likes on instagram. "Hold on, this my shit right here," Shmurda declares before singing along to that infectious "Hey, what's up, hello!" intro.

5. A self-titled mixtape is coming.

After signing a record deal with 300 Entertainment last November, Wap began working on his self titled mixtape. The success of "Trap Queen," which was featured on the artist’s last mixtape Up Next, precedes a self-titled mixtape that will feature appearances by many artist including fellow Remy Boyz members, as well as production from Yung Lan and K. Frenzy. "Nobody else's mixtape is going to be better than mine in 2015," Fetty continued. "You have my word."
